Is it ok to wash my six month old kittens with herbal essences shampoo?

I've never washed them before as i prefer to let them wash themselves but recently they have both gotten really dirty and smelly. I brush them everyday but they really do need a good wash.Is it ok to wash my six month old kittens with herbal essences shampoo?
my vet sed if i need to wash my cat use johnsons baby shampoo as it is very mild, but dont wash from the neck up and try not to get water in the earsIs it ok to wash my six month old kittens with herbal essences shampoo?
It's never a good idea to use any product on a kitten or cat that is not specifically created for them. Remember, they lick themselves constantly, so if your shampoo contains chemicals harmless to you but harmful to them, it could make for some very sick kitties. Your best bet is to simply run to your local store and pick up a cat-specific shampoo.

Note: You can get a basic cat shampoo at Wal-Mart that has a built-in conditioner to help prevent hairballs.
actually, to the other person who answered this question, clairol (the major company of herbal essences) DOES test on animals, which is incredibly cruel and unacceptable. The thing is human shampoo is NOT NOT NOT okay for animals, as we have learned in animal testing labs. If you go to your local pet store, there should be many different varieties of dog and cat shampoo, so you can get some there. And it's fine to give them baths, just make sure you DO NOT use people products. They are an entirely different species, we can't expect that they will react the same way we do to people products.
Well, yes and no, as the products are usually totally identical to animal oriented products. But the dosing might be too much, try adding the soap directly to the water, instead of on the cat. This will reduce the chance of poising the kitten, as any animal before 3 months old stands the chance of being poisoned by even animal tested products.
If you use any ';human'; shampoo you should use a baby shampoo. The best thing to use (because they are cats and don't' like the water) is a dry shampoo. You can get it at most animal supply places, you can even find it at Walmart, Kmart...etc... It's a powder (like baby powder) you sprinkle a small amount on and rub them. Then you brush them and it cleans their coat. I have 2 cats and that is what I use. I also have a small dog and I have used it on him.
sure, if you want them to get beaten up on the kitty cat playground!

Use a mild soap like johnson's baby shampoo if you don't want to buy pet shampoo. You can get cheap little samples of johnson's at the drug store or a place like target. Or borrow some shampoo from a friend. Kittens won't need much.
Not really. If you are gonna use human shampoo - get a better brand like Nexxus or Pantane. But its really better to just go get a bottle of cat shampoo (make sure its for cats only - do not use dog shampoo) and have it when you need it.
No human shampoo is harsh on animals. You should get kitty shampoo because their skin is more sensitive than human skin. Don't use dog shampoo either. I did that once (out of ignorance) and it made the kitty very sick.
If you must bathe them, either rinse them in warm water or use Johnson's Baby Shampoo instead. Herbal Essence can burn their eyes and may be too stringent for their skin.
No it is never ok to use human products on animals, as the products were probably never tested on animals to see the effects.
Do not wash them with the shampoo, they'll shed all over ur furniture .. there's special shampoo to use 4 cats, go buy it or otherwise consult a vet
It is best to stick to pet shampoo for kittens.
Uhm. No. Use CAT or ANIMAL shampoo.
Use cat shampoo
Is it necessary to wash them? Their mother must do that
Don't use your own shampoo. it is okay if you wash them but don't use human shampoo. It can really hurt them so go out and but shampoo for kittens!
